Selected as this small site located in the small village of Palau-del-Vidre, 7km from the beaches at Argelès, is a fabulously verdant spot and a haven of peace and quiet. It is a real contrast to the large more commercial sites on the beach. It is set in the grounds of an old hunting lodge designed on the lines of a small Italianate palace. The pitches are laid out among an amazing assortment of trees and shrubs, with a lovely weeping willow hanging over the little duck pond. The owners' passion for gardening allows you to appreciate over a hundred species of Mediterranean and tropical plants with their wonderful fragrances and colours. They have recently cut back some of the trees and extended some of the pitches. The buildings all painted in a local terracotta colour complement to green surroundings perfectly. It is a family run site with a warm friendly atmosphere and a complete contrast to the busy coastal sites. It could easily merit 4 stars if it had more washbasins in individual cubicles. Very occasional noise from trains but not at night.

Very basic shop - pre-order bread. New building housing the reception, bar, reception and library. Wooden beamed restaurant also open to public, closed two evenings week. Bar/snack with terrace overlooking pool. In village of Palau-del-Vidre 100m away there are two restaurants, a bakers, butchers, small food shop and garage. Fridge hire. Gas barbecues only allowed. Dogs accepted. Free Wi-Fi over most of the campsite.

Two unisex toilet blocks in attractive buildings and well maintained. Push button temperature controlled showers with hooks, shelf and rail. Hot and cold taps in wash basins, several individual cubicles. Baby room only with changing table. Separate laundry. Chemical waste point.
The site is near the centre of the village. From A9 take exit Perpignan Sud and follow directions for Argelès-sur-Mer on the D914. Take exit 9 onto the D11 signposted for Palau-del-Vidre. The campsite is on the left as you enter the village.
