LE GRAND BORNAND, Camping l’Escale

Alps

Selected because this site is situated 935m high amidst stunning mountain scenery and only 200m from the pretty Alpine town of Le Grand Bornand with its lively bars, restaurants and shops. The site is run by the charming Baur family who create a warm welcoming atmosphere. The pretty wooden-beamed bar/restaurant is located in a 200-year old building or 'alpage', decorated in traditional style and offering excellent Alpine dishes. It is a great area for ski-ing in the winter and para-gliding in summer.

Stayed at camp towards end of season 2009. Toilets were not cleaned each day and when cleaned still not up to standard. This resulted in them smelling. Camp next to road which can be noisy in early morning especially if village centre closed to traffic on market days. Camp has nice open feeling with good views and central for exploring area. Very friendly staff. Good restaurant on site.
