GIGNY-SUR-SAONE, Château de l’Epervière

Burgundy, Jura and Franche Comte

Selected because of its superb setting in the magnificent wooded parkland of an elegant 16th century château, just a few kilometres from the main motorway going south. This Castels site attracts visitors to return time and again. The site is laid out in two spacious areas. One is near the château and the other is across a small causeway over the pretty fishing lake, overhung with weeping willows. The services are housed in the pretty stone-faced outbuildings. It a good centre for exploring the region and offers a calm relaxing atmosphere. The site is always well maintained and renowned for its delightful gourmet restaurant in the château. There are also wine tastings in the 14th century vaulted cellars three times a week.

We stayed here for one night going down to the south and one night on our return journey. Everything about this place is great. The staff, the facilities and what my wife places so much emphasis on, the toilets and showers were all excellent, so much so that we have booked a two week stay here at the end of August. Really looking forward to looking around the area and can't wait for the wine tasting
